A brand new summer start-up event will see some of Birmingham’s business greats sharing their secrets of success with entrepreneurs looking for inspiration and practical tips
Summer Start-up Saturday is a day-long programme hosted by Birmingham City University that will give small city firms the best chance of taking their business to the next level.
Held in the institution’s Curzon Building on Saturday June 9, the event is a collaboration between small business support network Enterprise Nation and BCU Advantage, the business growth service from Birmingham City University.
The list of top entrepreneurs speaking is topped by award-winning city resident Mike Bandar, co-founder of global Instagram scheduling tech firm Hopper HQ and Turn Partners who will be interviewing Phil Neale, founder of alarm clock app Snoozle.
Birmingham-based gym clothing firm Gymshark will also take centre stage and its CEO Steve Hewitt will be talking about how the firm, named by the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 as Britain’s fastest-growing company in 2016, grew profits to £8.2 million and boosted sales using Instagram.
He will be joined by branding expert Naeem Alvi, founder and MD of Birmingham-based Notepad Studios Tara Tomes, founder of PR firm East Village and award-winning entrepreneur Joel Blake OBE, a passionate start-up champion and leadership and mindset strategist.
The day starts at 9.30am and finishes at 5pm and will also offer practical tips on how to navigate social media algorithms, improve sales techniques and do your own PR. Summer Start-up Saturday runs concurrently with the University’s Inspired Family Day (11am – 4pm), an action-packed day of free and fun-filled events and activities for all ages.
